Joining a cycling group for the first time can feel intimidating — what if you’re too slow? What if you don’t know the rules? At Yokubari Riders, we’ve all been there. And we’re here to help you enjoy your first group ride with confidence.
1. Know What to Expect –
- Group rides aren’t races — they’re about community, consistency, and improvement.
- Yokubari Riders organizes beginner-friendly rides with clear pace groups (slow, moderate, fast).
2. Communicate Early –
- Join the club WhatsApp or Telegram group.
- Ask questions like: “Is this suitable for beginners?”, “What’s the expected pace?”, or “Do I need to bring anything?”
3. Learn Basic Ride Etiquette
- Stay predictable: No sudden braking or swerving.
- Signal turns and stops with hand gestures.
- Ride two abreast when safe, single-file when traffic increases.
- Don’t overlap wheels.
4. Prepare the Night Before –
- Check tire pressure, brakes, and lights.
- Lay out your clothes, helmet, gloves, and water bottle.
- Have a snack ready if riding early.
5. Be Honest About Your Fitness –
- No shame in saying, “I may need to drop off early” or “I’m new.”
- Ride leaders appreciate honesty and can suggest shorter return loops.
6. Expect Support and Encouragement –
- Yokubari Riders’ goal is to uplift — not to compete.
- You’ll always find someone to chat with, ride alongside, or help with a puncture.
